Aerial Scanners

Air Affairs Australia Pty Ltd (AAA) has been providing Airborne Remote Sensing services in Australia and Internationally for 10 years. The primary system utilised is a modified Daedalus 1268 ATM scanner system, flown in a Beechcraft Kingair 200T aircraft. During this time, AAA has provided a unique high altitude Fire Mapping & Detection Service utilised by Fire Authorities throughout Australia

The Daedalus 1268 ATM system provides a capability in airborne multispectral imaging, ideally suited to the application of high altitude bushfire mapping and detection flights.

Technological development by AAA over the past 3 years has provided a system capable of producing geographically accurate data, within minutes of over-flying a fire situation. Rapid Access computer based data recording system allows the image data to be available in most common image processing or GIS formats.

The advantages in utilising airborne remote sensing technology over satellite based systems for image data collection are the ability to capture data offering both higher spatial and spectral resolutions. Flexibility in planned over flights also exceed that offered by the current space borne systems.

The spectral bands acquired by the Daedalus 1268 ATM range from the near Ultra-violet region of the spectrum, through to the thermal Infra-red region, being sampled at 11 discrete points over this spectrum providing 11 individual wavelength responses. The extra wavelengths available from the ATM over the Satellite systems allow for better discrimination of surface types for usage in specific applications.

Air Affairs Australia Pty Ltd has recently been placed on a long term contract for the provision of Airborne Fire Mapping Services for the NSW Rural Fire Services. To provide a complete emergency services solutions package under this arrangement, Air Affairs have also teamed with Canberra based Image Analysis & Mapping Pty Ltd. This combination of professional services able to provide a complete remote sensing capability for emergency applications, from data acquisition to geographically accurate processed output.
